Proposed plans to convert an unused terrace at Emirates House into a bar and restaurant area have been submitted to Brisbane City Council.

Under the plans, a new bar known as ‘Riverland’ located at 167 Eagle Street would be built on a river facing terrace at the rear of the building.

Two existing smaller bars located on the ground floor be moved from inside the building to the outside plaza including the existing kitchen. These two tenancies would then become available for other commercial uses.

Designed by Burton & Carter Architects, Riverland bar is set to be situated across 329m2, capitalising on sweeping Brisbane River views including glimpses of the Story Bridge. The proposal will feature elevated seating facing the river, including a 79m2 function space.

The centrepiece of Riverland will be a supersized island bar, while five individual kitchens will create a food truck street vibe, adding another food destination to the rapidly growing Brisbane food scene. The seating capacity for the proposal is slightly over 130 people.

Existing trees on the site will be retained, creating a sub-tropical feel to the bar. In keeping with the local Brisbane climate, most of the area will be covered by a new roof structure, while the remainder of the site, including the food truck area and river facing seats will be covered by white shade sails.

Entry to the bar will be via a timber arbour, set to be constructed along the existing external entry to the plaza, which next to an existing water feature which will be incorporated into the entryway.

Armada Hospitality Group, the company behind the proposal already operate a chain of bars across Victoria and New South Wales, including two hotels.
