The upper ground level will also include a smaller raised music stage as well as cafe, bar and varying types of seating options.

The new jazz bar is located in a converted warehouse building which is listed on both the local and State Heritage registers. Council have approved the plans last Thursday.

The interior design of Doo-Bop Jazz Bar is being undertaken by One Alliance Projects.

Flagship McDonalds

Meanwhile, up the road at 130 Queen Street, a development application has been lodged for a new large flagship McDonald’s Restaurant which will replace Jo Jo’s Restaurant.

Fast food giant McDonald’s plans to retrofit the former Jo Jo’s tenancy into a large 903 square metre restaurant with a dining capacity of 100. Works involve facade alterations as well as retrofitting of the existing balcony fronting Queen Street Mall and Albert Street.

Similarly to the adjacent rival Hungry Jack’s, the tenancy is located within a ‘Principal Centre Zone’ and therefore has unlimited hours of operation. The design of the McDonald’s outlet is being undertaken by Landini Associates.

Stefan Ackerie’s Jo Jo’s restaurant is being relocated to a new location on Melbourne Street which is currently under construction.

It’s just great to see that two of the most prominent corner blocks in our city are now taken up by fast food retail joints. That’s quality right there!
