Restaurateurs Erica and George Gregan and David Wang and Janet Cao will open their restaurants this week on Brisbane’s newest retail high street, King Street in the heart of the Brisbane Showgrounds’ growing urban hub.
The Gregan’s will operate both a bar and all day dining bistro, The George and a separate espresso bar, GG Espresso under the new Kingsgate commercial building along with the Wang’s very popular, Fat Dumpling concept.
Brisbane restaurateur Simon Barakat, his sister Dominique and partner Bob from Ciao Bella, Hamilton will open Italian restaurant Il Verde later this year.
Project Director for the Brisbane Showgrounds, Andrew Hay said the opening of the first restaurants would see King Street come to life as a walkable urban community.
“This is just the start of a number of amazing initiatives for King Street, which we look forward to sharing with Brisbane over the coming months.
“Being able to deliver quality amenity through the new, vibrant King Street is one of the most exciting elements of the showgrounds’ transformation – creating a great place to live both by day and by night.
“The George and Fat Dumpling are both excellent offerings and provide residents living at the Brisbane Showgrounds and surrounds and also local workers with some great dining options,” said Mr Hay.
The George on King Street is George and Erica Gregan’s second Brisbane restaurant, with a menu designed by Chef Paul Cvetko.
It will open daily Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch, with drinks and share plates enjoyed on Thursday and Friday nights.
Following on from the very popular Brunswick Street restaurant, Fat Dumpling will open Monday to Friday, 11:30am to 2:30pm and Thursday to Saturday from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Customers can look forward to experiencing authentic signature dumplings and home- style dishes from family recipes.
