The hunt to find the tenant for what will become one of Brisbane’s most renowned dining destinations has officially begun.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has revealed the registration of interest process for the new Kangaroo Point Green Bridge restaurant had kicked off.

Cr Schrinner encouraged hospitality operators to start coming up with innovative ideas for the unique opportunity to have a 400 sq m above-water restaurant and bar on an active transport bridge.

“Just as we transformed Howard Smith Wharves, the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will be Brisbane’s next iconic destination and this is a chance to be part of something really special,” he said.

“When complete, Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will be a vital link between the CBD and Kangaroo Point, offering a new vantage point for surroundings including the river, Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point Cliffs and City Botanic Gardens.

“Among the more than 6100 walking, cycling and e-mobility trips this bridge will cater for every day, we know many people will want to stop at the restaurant and bar to take in the incredible views.

“Come the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’ll also see thousands of games-goers travel between the Gabba Stadium and the CBD on this bridge.”

The 460-metre green bridge with a striking 83-metre mast will land between the City Botanical Gardens and Thornton Street, Kangaroo Point and is expected to be completed by early 2024.

Cr Schrinner said the registration of interest process also included the opportunity for a 100 sq m café near the city landing of the bridge.

“Securing one of these leases is a chance to create a must-do hospitality experience for local residents and visitors as well as people around the world,” he said.

“The larger of the two dining facilities, the restaurant and bar, will be elevated above the bridge deck on the approach to the city landing.

“The café will be located on a new urban plaza being created where Edward and Alice streets meet the river, providing a gateway for residents and tourists to the CBD and riverside boardwalks.

“We’re expecting to receive some incredibly competitive proposals and are excited to see the outstanding vision hospitality operators, both home-grown and international, will have for the sites.”

The two tenancies will be offered separately or together.
