Brisbane is set to have another large-scale urban regeneration project which is to be known as Millennium Square in Bowen Hills.

Under soon to be unveiled plans by News Corporation Australia, the staged $2 billion precinct will eventually see swaths of Bowen Hills landholdings including News Corp’s four hectare site to be redeveloped into a range of new uses.

Unveiled this week by the Courier Mail, News Corp Australia has partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Real Estate which plans to revolutionise the companies facilities into a ‘world-class multimedia hub’.

According to News Corp, the first stage would include a 44,000 sqm commercial tower accommodating News Corp’s business divisions such as The Courier Mail, The Sunday Mail, The Australian, Quest, News Regional Media and Sky News. It is understood that the first stage may commence as soon as the end of 2018.

The tower would also house space for other private enterprises which are focused on technology, media and knowledge industries to form a new media hub for Queensland.

A second stage would feature up to seven apartment buildings, a hotel, underground retail centre with a supermarket, market, cinemas, cafes, bars and restaurants.

PwC Real Estate managing director Robert Cavallucci told the Courier Mail that an expression of interest phase is about to start in order to secure a development partner for News Corp Australia.

“It will provide a great opportunity to participate in the development of Brisbane’s most significant transit-oriented development.”

Along with new landscaped gardens and extension of Hudd Street, a new public plaza would be developed which would connect to a redeveloped Bowen Hills Station.
