Mirvac have submitted a proposal to build a dual tower residential development located at 43 Evelyn Street and 15 Gordon Street, Newstead.
The development is known as ‘Evelyn’ and comprises of a total of 283 apartments across two towers in varying heights of 25 storeys and 14 storeys.
Apartment configuration mix:
- 72 one bedroom apartments
- 152 two bedroom apartments
- 59 three bed apartments
According to the development application, each apartment has been designed with large living areas and balconies/courtyards taking advantage of views and amenity of the Brisbane River and adjacent central park.
The development includes a public community room, park as well as a podium level pool and gardens.

Mirvac generally have a good understanding of delivering quality, however, how they think a 25 storey building in that area of Newstead stacks up compared to the rest is a bit of ‘pie in the sky’ thinking.
Considering across the Road Newstead Series will be 4 x towers ranging between 11-14 storeys and immediately adjacent are buildings between 4-6 storeys.
And where is everyone supposed to park? It’s absolute chaos at Newstead now!
Why would you drive, everyone lives there so they don’t have to drive and can walk to everything; that is the appeal of Newstead. If you are from a sprawled outer family focused suburb where you need to drive to everything, catch a taxi or a bus (city glider stops outside gasworks). Newstead doesn’t have a traditional concrete parking lot mall or spaced out amenities, it is a different lifestyle choice which focuses on small centralised living. If it was a parking lot that you wish for, you would not have all the wonderful resturants, bars, green areas, footpaths, or active community that appeals you to Newstead in the first place.
I live in Teneriffe now and have for years. I use the bus or citycat or walk to get to work. But people will still need a car for other parts of life. Yes, left at home. But available for weekends etc. The BCC is allowing developments to be built with insufficient resident and visitor parking. Particularly the latter. Nora is right. The place is chaos. People don’t come to restauaants in these sububs because they don’t want the parking drama. A lovely inner suburb is be destroyed by lack of planning. The fantasy of residents and visitirs not havng a car is irrational and the BCC/Developers are doing us a disservice.
