The Fox Hotel name is set to disappear from South Brisbane next year, with the heritage corner pub reverting to its original identity Hotel Terminus as major restoration works continue. Ghanem Group Hospitality is reshaping the entire venue into a four level dining, events and entertainment precinct designed to reconnect the building with its long history while delivering a contemporary hospitality offering for the growing inner city neighbourhood.

A public vote guided the decision to reinstate the original name as well as the identities of the upper level venues. The Vixen Room, an opulent late night music lounge and cocktail bar, and the Fox Rooftop will sit above the main floors, continuing the building’s legacy as a key nightlife and entertainment address.

Ghanem Group Hospitality Director Adonis Ghanem said the project is about building on the hotel’s foundations rather than replacing them.

He added that the community played a strong role in shaping the direction. “We were very interested to hear the public’s suggestions on what to name the building. Most votes were to restore the original name, Hotel Terminus. However, we couldn’t ignore the goodwill associated with The Fox, which received the second most votes. Vixen came in third, which complements the connection and feel between the cocktail music bar and the Fox Rooftop on the upper two levels.”

Significant works have been underway since April 2025. When it reopens in mid 2026, Hotel Terminus would provide an entirely new internal layout while keeping the restored façade intact. Each level has been planned to offer distinct experiences across dining, entertainment and rooftop settings.

The ground floor has been designed around a reimagined long bar, a new Fish Lane entrance and an 18 metre atrium that draws natural light deep into the building. A gastropub style bistro will serve elevated classic dishes, complemented by a gaming lounge and a bottle shop.

The first floor is oriented towards events, celebrations and special occasions, with two large event rooms and a full level private dining space referencing the building’s longstanding social role.

The top levels shift into late night mode. The Vixen Room is being created as a moody cocktail and entertainment lounge offering craft drinks, a snack led menu and a regular program of DJs and live performances. Above it, the Fox Rooftop will take over the entire roof space, offering city and cultural precinct views for long afternoons and warm evening sessions.

Hotel Terminus is expected to reopen in mid 2026, reintroducing one of Brisbane’s most recognisable pubs to a precinct that continues to evolve around South Bank and the CBD edge.
