The Brisbane City Council has given the green light for a $126 million upgrade to a major intersection of Moggill Road and Coonan Street in Indooroopilly.

The two major arterial roads link Brisbane’s outer west and south-western suburbs and the Brisbane Central Business District.

The intersection has a high crash history, with 32 recorded incidents between 2013-18, resulting in 10 hospitalisations and 17 requiring medical treatment. There were 12 further incidents between 2018 and 2020 including 3 hospitalizations, 5 medical treatment and 4 minor injuries.

Following the community consultation held in late 2019, Council’s project team has been working to refine the preferred design option and finalise the Business Case for the project.

The upgrade includes the construction of an overpass which is said to improve traffic flow, safety and active transport options as well as cater to existing and future traffic demands.

The project will be funded through the joint council and federal $500 million suburban roads fund.
