The Queensland Government has formally commenced a market engagement process to transform Woolloongabba into a mixed-use precinct centred on entertainment, housing and major event infrastructure. The announcement marks a significant step in the state’s broader 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy planning.
The proposed transformation encompasses more than nine hectares of inner-city land, including the former GoPrint site and the Gabba stadium. Located approximately two kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD, the area is connected to existing and future public transport infrastructure including the South East Busway and the under-construction Woolloongabba Cross River Rail Station.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the government is calling on the private sector to play a key role in reshaping the precinct.
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to capitalise on the 2032 Games and transform Woolloongabba into a vibrant entertainment and housing precinct in the heart of our capital city,” Mr Bleijie said.
“The generational impact of this transformation will last well beyond the Games, creating new opportunities for investment and events, and opening the door to bigger and better sports and entertainment for all Queenslanders.”
The government’s vision for the revitalised precinct includes:
- Opportunities for major events, sports and tourism-based experiences
- Increased investment in hospitality, retail and residential uses
- Expanded housing options and greater urban activation
- Improved connectivity with new and existing public transport services
Entities interested in taking part in the redevelopment process are being encouraged to register their details with the Department of State Development to receive updates on project milestones.
This initiative forms part of the Crisafulli Government’s broader infrastructure and urban planning commitments to ensure the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games deliver long-term benefits, including new housing supply and enhanced urban amenity.
