A major milestone has been reached for one of the Gold Coast’s most ambitious development projects, with the Gold Coast Turf Club announcing it will proceed with its Sunlight Lifestyle Precinct following a positive resolution with local stakeholders.
Backed by development partner Aquis Australia, the billion-dollar masterplan was initially approved by Council in August 2024. The project covers around two hectares of land adjacent to the existing Turf Club in Bundall and is set to deliver a new mixed-use hub including residential, retail, entertainment, and wellness offerings.
The formal progression follows a series of community discussions and planning refinements that aimed to resolve concerns raised through the approval and appeal process. The Turf Club now has the support of both the City of Gold Coast and the Queensland Government, clearing the way for project delivery.
We’ve taken a careful, considered approach from day one,” said Steve Lines, CEO of the Gold Coast Turf Club. “To have the support of the community, Council and the State Government gives us the confidence to now take the next step.”
The project has been positioned as a “world-class entertainment precinct” that will serve both locals and visitors. According to the team, Sunlight will not just be a place to live, but also to “stay, visit and play,” with immersive green spaces and elevated leisure offerings.
Mr Fung, who is overseeing the project delivery, said Sunlight represents an opportunity to create a lasting destination that reflects the lifestyle and spirit of the Gold Coast.
Sunlight will be more than a precinct; it’s a chance to create a lasting destination,” he said. “Our team is energised and working closely with the Turf Club to take the project to market.”
While detailed design and planning refinements are still being finalised, the development team confirmed that preparations are underway for a formal public launch.
The Turf Club thanked the broader community for its support, indicating that the project is now entering its delivery phase with “the wheels turning.”
We are looking forward to delivering a truly world-class community asset that will generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the Gold Coast,” said Mr Lines.
Aquis Australia is a diversified investment company best known for its involvement in large-scale property and tourism ventures across Queensland. Founded by Hong Kong businessman Tony Fung, Aquis gained national attention in the early 2010s through its proposal for an integrated resort and casino project in Cairns. While that project did not proceed, the company has continued to focus on premium developments with a strong lifestyle and entertainment component.
