The Queensland Government has announced what it describes as the largest upgrade to Suncorp Stadium in the venue’s 23 year history, with the headline addition an Australian-first wraparound LED video ribbon suspended from the roof and external media mesh facade screens described as the size of two tennis courts.
The upgrades will be delivered through the State Government’s Legacy Fund, meaning no new or additional funding is required for the works. Design work has already commenced, with construction expected to begin towards the end of this year.

The headline architectural move is a 360 degree wraparound LED ribbon board that runs the full perimeter of the seating bowl, replacing the existing fixed signage panels. The ribbon is paired with new supersized scoreboards at both ends of the ground. Together they are positioned to deliver a more theatrical in-bowl experience, with the ribbon able to carry live graphics, sponsor activations and crowd-driven content across the full circumference of the venue.
Suncorp Stadium belongs to Queenslanders, and we’re giving it the love it deserves so it’s up to scratch for a growing State. We’re adding new video screens, more capacity, new bars and entertainment zones, so whether you’re here for Origin, the Rugby World Cup, major concerts, you’ll have an unforgettable experience for years to come.
David Crisafulli, Premier of Queensland
Inside the bowl, the upgrade introduces new terraced viewing platforms behind the goals at both the northern and southern ends, with a mix of standing and seating options. The terraces are paired with new entertainment zones that include safe standing areas located within the seating bowl and across the concourse, drawing on fan experience formats used at major European and American stadiums.

Externally, the project introduces large media mesh screens at both the northern and southern plaza ends of the stadium. The Queensland Government has described the screens as Australian firsts and roughly the size of two tennis courts each, capable of carrying live event graphics and sponsor content well before fans pass through the gates.

Suncorp Stadium has been our spiritual home since our beginning, and we welcome this announcement by the Premier. Our position was made clear when Adam Reynolds spoke on Grand Final night last year. Our members and fans and Queenslanders in general deserve a world class game day experience.
Dave Donaghy, CEO, Brisbane Broncos
The announcement is framed by the State Government’s broader Destination 2045 tourism and events strategy, which has positioned Suncorp Stadium as a central venue for a growing major events calendar. Confirmed events through the next several years include the Rugby League World Cup, Rugby World Cup 2027, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Robbie Williams. The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games sit behind the strategy as the longer-term anchor.
Suncorp Stadium is operated by Stadiums Queensland and is the home venue of the Brisbane Broncos, the Dolphins, the Queensland Reds and the Brisbane Roar. The upgrade has been welcomed by Stadiums Queensland CEO Todd Harris, who noted the investment was timed to keep pace with growing demand on the venue, and by Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy, who referenced Adam Reynolds’ Grand Final night remarks last year about the gap between Suncorp and stadiums in other states.

These plans aren’t exactly a refurbishment or extension, more of a tack-on.
The new “in bowl entertainment centres” at each end of the stadium look like these were intended for the original stadium design (but cut due to cost over-runs .) A nice place to watch the game whilst buying a beer, but it’s not as if they’ll add additional seating capacity to the stadium.
The new wrap-around ribbon screens fixed to the fascia trusses is a nice addition. It will bring Suncorp in line with modern stadium experiences: just look at LA’s So-Fi stadium during the world cup.
Just not sure about the tennis-court sized screen fixed to the outer wall: looks like the buzz-word of the day is ‘fan-zone’ (see the proposed stadium at Victoria Park for similar developer marketing spiel.) Something akin to a corporatized US style “tailgate party” that occur in US stadium carparks pre-game…
All in for Suncorp Stadium upgrades
