Australia’s fastest growing sport, pickleball, is making waves in Brisbane, with developers now integrating dedicated courts into residential projects for the first time in Queensland.

Oria, a premium high-rise residential development in Spring Hill by Keylin Group, has unveiled plans for the state’s first proposed pickleball court within a multi-level residential community. This unique offering aligns with Brisbane’s growing enthusiasm ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Keylin Group Managing Director Louis Cheung said Oria’s prominent Gregory Terrace location, just moments away from Brisbane’s future Olympic stadium at Victoria Park, made pickleball a natural addition.

“Oria’s premium location overlooking Victoria Park has seen its status soar after the Queensland Government announced the precinct as the location for the stadium for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mr Cheung said.

“Spring Hill is an incredible location for our art deco inspired residential community, Oria, and a location I’ve had a long connection with dating back to my school years.”

“There’s no questioning that Oria sits at a distinguished address and its two, three and four bedroom apartments set new standards in modern inner city living.”

“However, with its vicinity to the Olympic venues in mind, I wanted to add something additional and unique to further set Oria apart, and my team’s love for pickleball was top of mind.”

Pickleball is a paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis is rapidly gaining traction due to its appeal across diverse age groups and fitness levels. The compact court size makes it particularly suitable for inner city developments.

Pickleball Association of Queensland President Adrian Gray said he was delighted to see private developers recognising the sport’s popularity and potential.

“The love of pickleball has seen a sharp increase in the last five years, particularly in Queensland which has seen it grow in popularity across the state,” Mr Gray said.

“I’m not surprised residential developments have seen the value of pickleball as part of their active space offerings as it brings people together, creating community around an enjoyable and engaging activity that is accessible to a broad range of people no matter their fitness level and age.”

“With its ever growing popularity, we are lobbying to have pickleball included in the 2032 Games.”

Alongside recreational innovation, Oria has also secured an impressive six leaves rating under the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s EnviroDevelopment certification for sustainability, covering ecosystems, waste, energy, water, community, and materials.

Designed by MAS Architecture and constructed by Brisbane-based CoStruct, the 15-storey building will offer 132 premium residences with sweeping views from Mount Coot-tha to Brisbane’s CBD. The development’s amenities will include a rooftop pool, sauna, steam room, gym, yoga studio, games area, cinema, and private dining spaces.

Construction is advancing swiftly, with basement and podium levels already complete. Residential levels are now visible above Gregory Terrace, and Oria is set to officially launch to market in June.

Residents are anticipated to move into Oria in early 2027. Read the original development application article here.
