Developer Shayher Group today announced the appointment of global contractor Multiplex to build the second of three towers at its Brisbane Quarter project.

The mixed-use Brisbane Quarter development along the Brisbane River will include the re-entry of the five-star luxury lifestyle W hotel in Australia with the opening of W Brisbane, an 82-level residential tower with a riverside retail and dining precinct and the 42-level commercial tower today awarded to Multiplex for construction.

Construction on the $180 million commercial tower at 300 George Street will begin next month with the building expected to take its place in Brisbane’s skyline by mid-2019.

Providing 48,342 square metres of NLA, the PCA A-grade commercial tower will be targeting a 5 star Green Star rating.

With Multiplex already constructing Brisbane Quarter’s hotel building, the decision to appoint the contractor to the commercial project was a natural one, said Shayher Group Director John Lin.

“Multiplex’s extensive experience across large-scale and complex projects has impressed us and they understand the importance of delivering high-quality outcomes, which is a perfect fit for the world-class 300 George Street project,” Mr Lin said.

Multiplex’s Regional Managing Director for Queensland Graham Cottam said the company was extremely proud to extend its relationship with the Shayher Group and add to its impressive list of iconic projects in Brisbane.

“Brisbane Quarter is an outstanding integrated development already having a significant impact on the Brisbane skyline and we are delighted to be a part of it, both with the W hotel component we are currently constructing and now with the commercial tower,” he said.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with Shayher to deliver this exciting next stage and to working with the project team, as well as local businesses and the community.”

The commercial tower is expected to reinvigorate the traditional legal precinct of the Brisbane Central Business district.

Flanked by major roads George, Ann and Adelaide Streets, Brisbane Quarter is set to become a drawcard for both locals and tourists with its prized riverside location.

Construction is well underway on the new W Brisbane with the opening scheduled for December 22, 2017 according to Starwood Hotels website.

Are Multiplex also doing the residential tower? Or is that yet to be appointed/already underway as part of hotel portion?

Yet to be appointed as far as I know. I know the residential unit market is doing it tough at the moment but watching this development go up has be painfully slow, and with no known date for the completion of the residential tower the wait will go on for years to come haha.

Even if the residential tower above the podium level does commence soon, it will take at least 2.5-3 years before it reaches completion by which time the market will likely have changed (for better or worse).

Exactly, all the more reason for them to just get on with it and do all three components as a whole.
