With excavation continuing on the core Queen’s Wharf precinct, Multiplex has commenced construction on ‘The Foreshore Works Stage 1 Project’ which is a public riverside infrastructure project that forms part of the broader Queen’s Wharf Integrated development.

Located along the foreshore of the north bank of the Brisbane River, the project will interconnect with the overall Queen’s Wharf precinct through the creation of the new water’s edge parkland ‘Waterline Park’ and ‘Mangrove Walk’ walkway.

According to the original development application, the Mangrove Walk will function as:

  • Dedicated pedestrian-only walkway including interpretive environmental educational signage
  • Lookouts and shelters spaced along the boardwalk provide rest stops and opportunities to take in the views. Access to the Mangrove Walk will be managed during high visitor events such as Riverfire to ensure public safety
  • CityCat terminal access from QUT will be retained and access improved for pedestrians
  • Iconic sculpture / wayfinding device at the entrance to the walkway will highlight entrance to the Mangrove Walk as a precinct gateway and a dedicated pedestrian facility.
  • A new launchpad for river-based recreational activities

As part of the construction process, the site will require changes to topography, temporary diversions of cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles, riparian works (including piling) and the construction of shelters and structures to create a high-quality public realm environment as a gateway to Queen’s Wharf Development.

Construction is expected to be completed for the public to enjoy in 2019 and will become the first space to be transformed within the multi-billion dollar QWB precinct.
