  • Proposed $250 million five star resort by Comiskey Group at Sandstone Point
  • Features two ten storey hotel towers and new retail and leisure facilities
  • Timed to support tourism growth ahead of the 2032 Olympics

A development application has been submitted for a major new five star resort at Sandstone Point, marking one of the most ambitious hospitality projects proposed in the Moreton Bay region to date.

Located adjacent to the existing Sandstone Point Hotel and BIG4 Holiday Resort, the proposed $250 million expansion would include two ten storey accommodation towers, retail and entertainment facilities, function spaces, a bus terminal, and upgraded concert infrastructure.

According to the Comiskey Group, the development would generate nearly one thousand jobs and deliver a significant increase in overnight visitor capacity for the region, with construction planned to occur over a two year period following council approval.

The resort is being positioned as a high end coastal destination catering to both leisure and events-based tourism, with completion expected before the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The proposal includes more than 200 hotel rooms across two buildings, with several different accommodation types ranging from standard suites to rooftop penthouses. Ground level amenity would include an outdoor infinity pool overlooking the Pumicestone Passage, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, a wellness centre with gym, and separate family and adults-only swimming zones. An indoor bowling alley and retail precinct would also form part of the integrated resort concept.

A feature of the proposal is a dedicated swim-up bar located beside the main pool, designed to host regular live DJs and entertainment, adding to the precinct’s established reputation for large scale events. The existing Sandstone Point Hotel and festival grounds have long been a drawcard for the region, hosting nationally recognised music acts and community events throughout the year.

Comiskey Group Director Paul Comiskey said the proposal represents the most significant project the family-owned business has undertaken to date. He said the site’s scale and coastal setting offered a rare opportunity to deliver something unique to the Queensland market, while also helping to meet future demand for international standard accommodation in the Moreton Bay region.

The development application has been submitted here to Moreton Bay Regional Council and is now under assessment.

More traffic bottle neck issues. Bad enough as it is. Road upgrades needed first.
