Anglicare Southern Queensland has confirmed the appointment of Woollam Constructions to deliver a new $14 million youth homelessness accommodation facility in Beenleigh, set to provide much needed housing and support services for vulnerable young people across the Logan region.

The project will offer 30 units aimed at supporting young people aged 16 to 25 who are either experiencing homelessness or at serious risk. The facility will include 24 studio apartments, along with six one bedroom units designed to accommodate young couples or small families.

Construction is scheduled to commence in April 2025, with completion anticipated by mid 2026.

“Woollam Constructions was selected following a robust tender process and are particularly well regarded for their experience and reputation in delivering projects of this size and nature,” said Anglicare Southern Queensland Chief Executive Officer Sue Cooke. “I’m confident that this partnership will deliver a project that can make a real impact.”

Woollam Constructions Managing Director Craig Percival described the project as one that goes beyond traditional construction outcomes.

“This is more than just construction — it is about community,” he said. “We are honoured to be delivering a space that will give young people the stability and opportunity they deserve.”

The project has been designed with a focus on accessibility to public amenities. The site was chosen for its proximity to shopping precincts, civic and business centres, green spaces and public transport. Once operational, the facility will be staffed around the clock, seven days a week.

Anglicare says the development will also include a range of support services designed to improve life skills, build independence and provide personalised care through structured planning.

Cooke said the Beenleigh development responds to a significant shortage of youth accommodation in the South Brisbane and Logan corridor, an area identified as having a high need for urgent housing solutions.

“Nearly a quarter of Australians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 24. We know that with stable housing and the right support network, young people can change their life trajectory by securing education, employment and long term housing,” Cooke said.

Anglicare has launched its 2025 tax appeal alongside the announcement, aiming to raise $70,000 by July to support the development. The organisation is seeking both financial and in kind contributions to help complete the project.

“We are here to help those at risk to find a home, but we know we cannot do it alone,” Cooke added.

According to Anglicare, over the past financial year it supported more than 150 young people across Southeast Queensland through its homelessness services, including immediate housing and transitional accommodation programs.
