Drilling will soon be taking place for the new $70 million Queen’s Wharf pedestrian bridge which plans to connect the $3 billion Queen’s Wharf Integrated Resort with South Bank.
From August 8th, boreholes will be drilled at the South Bank landing site of the bridge, along Clem Jones Promenade as well as in the middle of the Brisbane River where the bridge’s central pylon is to be constructed.
According to Destination Brisbane Consortium, detailed design engineering examinations are expected to be completed by the end of the month with Economic Development Queensland to give final approval of the bridge design.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the CBD, the Queensland Government has approved up to $230,000 in grant funding for Brisbane City Council to jointly develop a business case for the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge which would connect the Eagle Street Pier precinct with Kangaroo Point.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick announced Brisbane City Council’s share of the available $22 million under round two of the Maturing the Infrastructure Pipeline Program (MIPP).
“The Kangaroo Point Bridge is a proposed pedestrian and cycle bridge that will connect Kangaroo Point with the Brisbane City Centre over the Brisbane River,” Mr Dick said.
In 2013, Richard Kirk Architects was commissioned to provide a proposal for a 395m long cable support pedestrian bridge, as a part of Brisbane City Council’s New City Centre Master Plan.
According to Richard Kirk Architects, the Alice Street Bridge design creates a destinational link between the City and Kangaroo Point and improves integration with existing and planned public transport services.
The overarching design idea behind the Richard Kirk design was to deliver a bridge that minimises the impact on the river and contributes an elegant form to an evolving city skyline.
While there is an existing design, it is not known whether Council would initiate a design competition or use the current Richard Kirk design to form part of the final pedestrian bridge design.

Finally. This has been long needed. The boats are a nice transport between both sides but a bride is much more convenient. Hopefully the design will be interesting, like Melbourne’s Webb Bridge.
sensational… i would love to see some connectivity between hamilton and bulimba as well. obviously height would be an issue with cruse ships but if they could build a sky bridge it would be very cool
